  • Turkey secure late qualification for Euro 2016 as best third-placed side
  • Last-gasp 1-0 win over Iceland sealed place in France for the Turks
  • Best qualifying record of any third-placed sides means they avoid play-offs
  • Iceland finish second in Group A behind Czech Republic

Turkey snatched automatic qualification for Euro 2016 as the best third-placed team with a last-gasp goal to secure a 1-0 win at home to Iceland thanks to Selcuk Inan’s free-kick.

The Turks, who finished with 10 men after midfielder Gokhan Tore was shown a straight red card after 77 minutes for a shocking challenge on Jon Dadi Boedvarsson, had to wait until the 89th minute for Inan to score from 30 yards.

It means that Fatih Terim’s side will avoid the stress of a play-off and head straight to France next summer.
