Turkey – The Rising Star of Golf 2015

We are pleased to present “Turkey – The Rising Star of Golf 2015”, the latest publication from KPMG’s Golf Advisory Practice launched today by Andrea Sartori, KPMG Global Head of Sport, at the Maxx Royal Belek Golf Resort during the 2015 Turkish Airlines Open.

The report examines the demand and supply trends of golf, the status of golf tourism and the future outlook of golf in Turkey. KPMG worked closely with the country’s 18 golf clubs and local industry players to learn more about the key challenges facing the sport, as well as on the development activity currently in progress.

Today, Turkey represents a golf market in its infancy that still relies heavily on international golf tourism. However, in light of favourable climatic conditions, the organisation of major events such as the Turkish Airlines Open and related media interest, a highly successful junior golf programme, and the commitment of industry stakeholders to further develop golf in the country through various initiatives, our latest report highlights how golf in Turkey bears great development potential.

Belek (Antalya Province), Turkey’s premier golf tourism destination, is placed under the spotlight in this report, as the supply for and demand of golf in Turkey is mainly concentrated there. With 11 golf clubs and its 16 courses (18-hole equivalent), a total of 513,000 rounds were played at these facilities in 2014. This is more than 32,000 rounds on average. The Belek region is one of the best performing golf markets in Europe, and represents one of the fastest growing Mediterranean golf tourism destinations.

We would like to express our appreciation to Turkish Airlines and the Turkish Golf Federation for their support in compiling this report and to all of the golf course managers and operators who have contributed to the research.

KPMG’s Golf Advisory Practice has been advising on the development of golf courses and golf resorts in Europe, Middle East and Africa, and further afield, for the past 15 years. We welcome enquiries concerning both the results of this report and also concerning development plans for golf-related projects under consideration.
