About the conference

This is the 7th Annual Conference of the Political Studies Association’s Sport and Politics specialist study group ( ). It is the leading UK conference on sport politics. This year the conference has an open theme and we welcome presentations that address any of the following issues:

–    New directions in sport policy analysis
–    Sport, well-being and health policy
–    Sport and international development
–    Sport, conflict resolution and security
–    Sport and the politics of mega-events
–    Sport, politics and pedagogy
–    Sport, youth and development

We welcome both established researchers and postgraduate students.

Proposals for panels and papers

Proposals are invited on any aspect of the themes suggested above. We particularly welcome proposals reflecting high quality and cutting-edge research. Please submit an abstract of no more than 250 words to Dr Mike Silk ( )and Dr Paul Gilchrist ( by 14 December 2012. Please indicate if you are a postgraduate student.


Refreshments throughout the day and a lunch will be provided for conderence delegates.


–       PSA members – £20

–       Non-PSA members – £30

–       Postgraduate students / retired / unwaged – £15

Payment can be made by cheque or cash on the day.

Pre-conference drinks

As is customary, a number of delegates will be meeting up the evening before the conference for a couple of social drinks. Details to be provided nearer the time.


No accomodation is provided for the conference. Delegates will need to make their own accomodation arrangements. Please book early, though, as Bath is a popular tourist destination, especially at weekends.
